Who We Are
Started in 2008, the Gandhi Fellowship is a 23-month leadership journey initiated by the Piramal Foundation to build young leaders for India.
Gandhi Fellows work closely with government systems and communities across the country to strengthen public services in education, health, water, digitization, and climate action.
For over two decades, the fellowship has enabled young people to transform themselves, discover who they truly are, understand India beyond textbooks, and lead change where it truly matters.
This is not just a fellowship program. It is a life-shaping leadership experience.
What Fellows Do
Work on real,
on-ground challenges
Fellows engage with complex, real-world problems in education, health, governance, and community systems. This work is not simulated decisions and actions influence lives, public resources, and outcomes at scale.
Build skills that go
beyond the social sector
Through this work, fellows develop capabilities that apply across careers:
- Problem-solving in ambiguity
- Data-driven decision-making
- Systems thinking
- Stakeholder management
- Leadership under real constraints

These skills are as valuable in consulting, policy, startups, corporate leadership, and entrepreneurship as they are in social impact roles.

Fellows work with government officers, educators, administrators, and community leaders. This enables a deeper understanding of how large systems function, how change unfolds, and how influence can be exercised responsibly.

Rather than focusing on short-term fixes, fellows design and implement interventions that improve system performance over time. This builds long-term thinking, solution structuring, and outcome-driven execution.

Academic Requirements
Minimum 55% average in Class 10, Class 12, and Graduation (PG, if applicable)
Age Criteria
25 years or younger, or 26–29 years with at least 1 year of work experience
Applicants who have previously joined but did not complete the Gandhi Fellowship are not eligible to apply
