Foundation Driven by Purpose

Guided by the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals, Piramal Foundation is passionately dedicated to uplifting marginalised communities. Harnessing the vibrant energy of our youth and fortifying Government systems, we stand united with Central and State Governments, global and local entities, and academic pioneers to supercharge India’s transformative journey.  Through empowering state initiatives and rallying the youth in monumental nation-building, we’ve proudly impacted over 113 million lives across 27 states and 2 union territories in just 16 years.

Our Core Values

Serving People, Enacting Positive Change, and Embodying Our Values.

These values are the very essence of what the Piramal Foundation embodies and upholds. They are the compass that directs us toward effectiveness and triumph, keeping us resolutely aligned with our overarching mission of

“Doing Well and Doing Good ”

Piramal Foundation, philanthropic arm of the Piramal Group, is a Section 8 company that develops and implements innovative solutions for transcending barriers against unlocking India’s economic potential. The initiatives of the Foundation reflect the Group’s core values and corporate philosophy of Doing Well and Doing Good.

The Foundation believes that impact at scale, across diverse geographies and communities, is possible only through partnerships with governments (public-private-partnership model) and partner organisations. Therefore, it works in conjunction with state and central governments, like-minded philanthropists, corporates, donors, NGOs and social delivery organizations.

The vision of the Foundation is to build India through leadership, decentralisation, digitisation and inclusion led by women and youth. It focuses in some key areas – the Big Bets as they are called – to solve India’s most intractable problems. This it does by supporting
1. Governments in implementing policy and plans
2. Communities to partner in change and
3. Building ecosystems to enable transformation.

Aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals, the Piramal Foundation is committed to improving the lives of marginalized communities, by leveraging the power of youth and strengthening government systems. It partners with governments – at the centre and state levels, international and national organizations and academia to accelerate change in India. In just a decade, the Foundation has dynamically expanded its horizons. We have identified four primary areas for our work. The Big Bets target the big barriers that challenge our most underserved communities.

Gandhi Fellowship Program is the instrument in the hands of each of these verticals to put into place a set of innovative solutions so that India leapfrogs towards achieving her Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. The Fellowship is embedded in either of the above four verticals, providing the Fellows an opportunity to engage with the public system (in areas of education, public health, water and climate change). The primary stakeholders within the system with whom they interact, however, depends on the Fellowship program they have been allocated to, hence defining the nature of work a Fellow will do on the field. Each of the Big Bets comes with a unique set of objectives and experiences but they are united by one thread – Sewa Bhaav, an aspiration to serve.

The Bets we have taken

Meet The CEO

A Word From Our CEO

The Gandhi fellowship was started around 10 years ago, primarily to develop new age leadership skills in young people. Colleges in India are really fantastic in developing technical skills. I think, in order to be really successful in the world today, you need more than just technical skills. You need the ability to lead yourself, you need the ability to lead other people and you need to have the ability to lead impact. Leading self-skills are not taught that much during your college education and so the fellowship is a great finishing school for the young people who want to develop their skills and have accelerated careers.
